Our Programs / Extra-curricular Programs

We are a peanut and nut-free school; we also do not serve grapes, popcorn or raw whole carrots.

Gym Program:

According to the New York City Department of Health, all students are required to engage in physical activity. Here at Our Kids Place, we have devoted a full day to promoting physical education. Every Thursday, it is mandatory that students wear their gym attire and participate in gym. During each session, they focus on physical strength, coordination, and gross-motor skills, which strengthens the larger muscles of the body.  Miss Lorraine, our gym teacher is certified by the NYC Spark Program, which promotes active  play for all NYC students.

Gym attire can be purchased upon registration.

Ballet Program:

Introduction to Ballet is a forty-five minute class geared towards the basic fundamental movements in ballet, which students would need to excel in higher-level ballet classes. Conducted by our own Miss Lorraine, she adapts the techniques of her training to fit the needs of her students while still incorporating the important concepts students need to grasp. Classes are held once a week during the academic school year and twice a week during the summer session.

This program is open to all students, age three and up. Students should be properly prepared with a leotard, nude tights, OKP Dance shirt and ballet slippers.

Additional fee is applied.

Piano Program:

Conducted by the Art of Piano Playing School, this school brings music instruction to Our Kids Place. Once a week, the instructor comes in and provides one-on-one instruction to students. This program is held for three sessions (ten weeks per session, fall, winter, and spring) during the academic school year. At the end of the three sessions, the students perform at Lincoln Center in New York City.

This program is open to all students, age three and up.

Additional fee is applied.

Gym/ Swim Program:

Hosted by the Cross Island YMCA, students get a half hour of instructional gym and a half hour of instructional swim for seven consecutive weeks.  The YMCA provides active lifeguards on the pool deck and certified swim instructors.  Students leave the program knowing the importance of water safety and knowing how to swim!

This program is open to all students, age four and up.

Additional fee is applied.
